Over the weekend the 34SP.com team held a fundraising event for local homeless charity Shelter UK. This was the second year of running the 24-hour gameathon event, so the target was raised from £300 to £500 this year.
The event started at 7pm on Friday night, and ran through until 7pm Saturday, giving a full 24 hours of non-stop gaming. The charity funds crept up steadily throughout the gameathon and staff met their target in the final hour of gaming, bringing everything to a brief halt whilst the 34SP.com team celebrated.
The team played through popular competitive titles such as Rocket League and Zombies Arcade, as well as featuring some solo plays of personal favourite titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Five Nights at Freddie’s. They played a mix of newer titles and also brought along an old SNES for some classic arcade style gaming.
All in all the event was a huge success for the 34SP.com team – not only did they meet their fundraising target, but many of the staff members managed to push through the entire night to play games and support each other.
We asked a couple of team members what they enjoyed about the gameathon; Siobhan, our Head of Sales had this to say:
“I had a great time at this year’s gameathon, we have such a good team of people at 34SP.com that we can get together, create something amazing and give something back to our community in the process. Thank you to our company for supporting us.”
Kayleigh from our technical support team added:
“Lots of preparation goes into the gameathon, between Phil’s (one of our developers) amazing stream setup, rounding up an array of new and old consoles, and actually coming together to stay up a full 24 hours and support each other. I don’t think the gameathon would work quite as well if it weren’t for the fact that not only are we good colleagues, we are also close friends and genuinely enjoy putting the extra time in.”
The current gameathon funds have reached £570 – bringing the team to 114% of their target. Donations can still be made by following the link below. The 34SP.com team would like to thank everyone who turned out and those who donated for their support. We cannot wait for the next gameathon!
